
On July 7th, Redditor materthe created /r/weirdspotifyplaylists subreddit for the purposes of collecting screenshots of unusual and humorous Spotify playlists. These folks of the internet clearly had too much time on their hands when they curated entire Spotify playlists just to make. On July 9th, 2021, the account posted a tweet that received over 25,400 retweets and 237,000 likes (shown below, right).

On July 6th, the account posted its first tweet to gain over 6,000 retweets and 40,000 likes (shown below, left). The tweet received over 550 retweets and 6,300 likes in ten days. On July 5th, 2021, the account posted its first tweet, a screenshot of Spotify playlist "male manipulator gaslighting you in his parents basement" (shown below). On May 9th, 2021, Twitter gimmick account Weird Spotify Playlists was created. The account gained viral popularity in July 2021, with a dedicated subreddit also created. Weird Spotify Playlists is a gimmick Twitter account that posts screenshots of unusual and humorous Spotify playlists, particularly those of the Spotify Playlist Messages variety.
